On behalf of a friend of a friend, I am asking for some advice, assistance and recommendations from the forum members ... some of the smartest people with whom I have ever communicated.

The young man in question is a rising high school senior. He is in the top quarter, but not top fifth of his graduating class, at a small parochial high school.

He has a grade average in the vicinity of 90-93 percent. His best subjects are social studies, English and foreign languages (French). He is not to strong in science and mathematics. His SATs are in the mid 1200s, almost evenly divided with a slightly better score in the verbal portion. I don't know his writing score, but from what I understand, he is very articulate. He is involved in school activities, such as the school newspaper and student government.

The young man is interested in attending a college with a strong program in the social sciences and humanities. Mostly likely, he will major in history or political science, although English and sociology are also possibilities.

He is looking for suggestion for colleges that would be a good fit for him. He is primarily interested in colleges in the Mid-Atlantic or East Central states, but he is also open to almost any suggestions.

Please feel free to make any suggestions. On his behalf, I want to thank you all in advance
