Recommendations for daughter interested in being a vet

It is for sure. My son loved being in the early admit program at Kansas State! He is ready to start his third year in vet school this month and felt the early admit program was fantastic.

Years ago, our friend had been out of undergrad for a few years when he decided to go to vet school. Could not get into vet school in US and went to PEI in Canada (Prince Edward Island).

Im not sure if this is too late to comment, but my daughter is starting PennVet this fall. She is a Cum Laude graduate of Penn State and Schreyer Honors College. She had all the bells and whistlesā€¦high GPA, published research, great LORs, and experience but she did not get in on her first application cycle. Applied to ten schools and was waitlisted at three. This cycle she applied to ten schools again. She was accepted at three and waitlisted at two. The process is GRUELING and highly competitive. What we learned is you cannot have too much varied experience. Also making post-application reviews with schools that did not accept you is important. Prepare for your interviews. Sometimes it is a pure numbers gameā€¦PennVet had 1690 applicants for 125 seats. Most schools had similar numbers. Good Luck!

You are right about the process being grueling! My D19 is starting vet school in the fall at the Royal Veterinary College in London. She applied to 13 schools this year for her first cycle. Accepted to one and waitlisted to 2. She is graduating from UCLA next week with a 3.75gpa, over 900 hours and great LORs. She was thrilled to get into one first try! Good luck to your daughter!!
