With orientation just a week away (for me), I was wondering what classes I should take for the first semester. Some have advised to take the easier classes first, such as the entry-level classes and such. Does anybody have any insight that they would like to share, or classes that have worked out for them first semester?

Thanks

It depends on which UT school you are in and the requirements for the degree you want to get. I think that all the schools have a suggested course schedule to follow that is posted on the web.

Focus on prerequisites!
Like sequential classes such as math.

You do typically want to take easier classes your first semester. I cannot suggest classes to you because it depends greatly on what your major is. Introductory classes are typically easier than upper division but some will be weed out classes so you cannot assume that your schedule is going to be easy because you are going to end up taking introductory classes for your first semester. I would recommend doing no more than three problem solving classes (for your first semester) and then you can take some non-problem solving classes to go with it. Or if you don’t have a problem solving major then you may end up taking zero problem solving classes. Problem solving classes are more likely to require tutoring and office hours whereas reading classes won’t so you will have a hard time finding time for tutoring if you unload on problem solving classes. I am a math major and I pretty much just get my non-problem solving classes off the core curriculum.

There’s no way to answer this question unless you tell us your major.

Calculus I
Chem 1 w/ lab
Physics 1 w/lab (if required by your major)
Biology 1 w/lab (depends on your major)
3 electives (strictly dependent on your major)

Everyone has to do a UGS signature course. Do “How high is the media’s economics iq?” with Hickenbottom. Easy A (and i mean really easy), pretty interesting, and everyone I talked to liked it.

Talk to an advisor. They’ll tell you what to take

UGS course “The Modern Family” with Loving. Easy A!
