Recommendations for Housing

each suite has a common room. Is there like common room or something for the whole floor so that guys and gals can interact?

^ I'm pretty sure we can interact. I've seen pictures of people (both genders) sitting on the common room courches.

hah ok good..good

There's no rule saying that girls and girls have to stay in their respective suites. You can go where ever you want.

hey, i'm posting this just to give everyone a head's up. I can't speak for all of the colleges, but i am first year muir student living in Tioga right now. I will tell you that if you are applying for a single to not be surprised if you get turned down -- they are in very high demand. If you don't get put in a single then you will get put in a double, and since they are converting most (or maybe all the coming year) of the doubles into Plus-One rooms you will be put in a room with two other people. Now, you will get reimbursed a small amount (i think it was somwhere between 1 and two dollars) everyday you live in a plus one. Honestly, a plus one is not that bad. HOWEVER, something that you will not hear the school tell you is that if you apply for a Triple room you will end up paying less than if you got stuck in a plus-one. And let me tell you, after living here and seeing the size of a triple room, it's way worth it. also, these rooms are typically at the top of the buildings with very nice views. So, you could risk trying to get a single and possibly get it or get put in a plus-one, or you could play it safe and get a large room in the top floors and pay less money. i saw someone say that tioga smells this year.....i don't know what that is all about, but tioga and tenaya are pretty much going to be the same after this summer, but Tioga does have the better beach view.

My parents wanted me to get a triple, and with all the responses in the thread, it doesn't appear that it will be that bad.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.

Is housing first-come, first-served? In other words, if I want a single, and I submitted my contract early, does that mean I get a better chance of living in a single this fall?

how are the showers?

Filabusta-
Warren is by lottery, ERC (from what I've heard) is first come first served.

ERC IS first-come, first-served

What about Marshall?

I did my application March 24, day after I found out I got in. And I submitted my housing application about a week ago. what are my odds?

good .

Revelle is the worst (especially the dungeon), Muir and sixth aren't much better, Marshall is cramped, with paper thin walls, ERC dorms are great, and I've only been in the Warren dorms once.

Go for a single, being woken up by your roommate having sex isn't a fun thing. Neither is being stared at while you're sleeping by the other roommate. (Not my roommates, but my friend's)

Just another story: My friend at Revelle lived in the dungeon and one day found maggots crawling out of his carpet.

Triple sucks. I had a triple in the beginning of the year, but after a month or so, one of the girls moved out. We ended up with a double for the rest of the year. Was great. But still... Let's just say I'm so glad I'm in a single next year in the apartments. Don't get me wrong; I get along great with my roommate. But certain things start to irk you after a year... or half a year. I cannot imagine life in a triple. I would've been way stressed.

As far as housings go, ERC has it best. Don't envy their GEs, but their housing is shweeeeeeeeeet.

I'm in Muir, and I was in Tioga (renovated right before we moved in). Because it was renovated, furnitures and things were missing, they continually added things during the year, and OH, the fire alarms went off like a bomb too many times. But I was glad I was in a renovated building, cause mannnn, Tenaya was really ugly. It reeked olllllld. Be glad it's being renovated, those of you who get Tenaya. You'll probably have the same missing furniture situation, but bear through. I say it's worth it, since you're getting a newer cleaner place.

As for Revelle, for those not in Blake or Argo, I don't envy. (Blake and Argo were ok.) Each suite is separated by floor, so you get to know your suite REALLY WELL (read: too well). If you don't like your suitemates, you may be in for a rough year. The bathrooms can get pretty nasty.

Sixth, I've never been too (it's in the middle of nowhere...) so I can't say anything but the rumor is that it's like "Camp Snoopy." The apartments I heard are actually pretty ok for 2nd year (not in terms of looks, but in terms of social?). Forgot why, but just something I've heard.

Marshall, I only recall being to the apartments, which are pretty nice. They're like REAL apartments (kind of). Not as nice as ERC's, but better than most other places. Nice real kitchen, a nice "living room" and close proximities to other apartments and gym.

Warren, same as Marshall, only been to the apartments. They're not bad. Muir 2nd years had to choose betwen Muir Apartments and Warren Apartments (not really a CHOICE; more like what you're stuck with) and the only reason why Muir is better than Warren apartments is location. But that reason alone made me get a Muir apartment.
Warren apartments are clean, in a good area, no nice view or anything, but close to Geisel so would've been a good place for the studious to live.

I guess that covers it briefly.
