What schools would you recommend for a strong student (overall GPA of 3.7+ with 4.0 in his math and computer science classes) interested in obtaining a masters degree in applied math? He is NOT interested in getting a PhD.

Applied Math: NYU

Pure Math: MIT

Note: Univ of Illinois has an Applied Math program that has so many cross-listed courses with Computer Science to the point that you could use the same 10 courses, reallocate them and it becomes a Computer Science degree.

What is he planning to do with his applied math master’s?

Look at Brown. Strong applied math program, strong CS grad dept.
