Sports Management…hah.

I don’t know how to post a thread, but I’m looking for colleges in PA that offer sports management as a major, preferably a college with a good program for it, although I know by only looking within PA I’m compromising my results.

Connecticut - Sacred Heart Univeristy (highly touted John Welch Business School)
Massachusetts- Univ of Mass Amherst (also within business school).
Two excellent choices for that major, and both fine institutions with rising selectivity and prestige.

Plscatamacchia - what a profoundly ignorant posting. Sports is a multibillion dollar industry and lots of career opportunities exist in the field. Pick a strong program and you could work in the field at graduation.

I know many people that graduated with Sports Management and recreation degree’s. None of them are really doing anything with the degree. Its one of those field’s where you need to have good networking to succeed. You’re better off becoming a Physical Education teacher. But if you’re dream is to own a team or something like that, it has nothing to do with knowing sports. Its more of an investment. I’d suggest the field of finance if you really want to get into that field.

I know plenty of people with sports management degrees that were able to get good jobs after graduation. But all of them had done internships to get experience in the field during college. I also work for a minor league baseball team during the summer, and I know that a lot of the full time staff were not sports management majors. A few were business, and I know one that was a finance major. But the key to all of them getting jobs was networking and prior internships there!

You should look for a program that has access to a lot of internships. Thats the way you are going to break in, getting an internship or 2(or more) and networking and then finding a spot somewhere and working your way up.

I know plenty of friends of mine that are in the Sports Management program at Rutgers. It’s a nice balance of all the business aspects (organizational leadership, collective bargaining, etc.) and the PT stuff (it’s actually considered a part of the Exercise Science major). Someone I know got a job with the Jets right out of school.

Saint Leo University offers their Sport business program through their school of business.
Florida-UCF has a great program with many internship opportunities with pro sports teams
