Recommendations n Secondary School Report

My teachers wrote a common letter of recommendation for me, as did my principal... They filled out the MIT form particulars but want to keep the original for the school's records. So is it ok to send a photocopy or do I have to get another one made? And what about other colleges like Princeton, Stanford etc? Any ideas?

Thanks!

I think sending a photocopy is fine...

As long as the school sends it in a sealed envelope and stamps/signs over the seal (or sends it in a package which is clearly sent by the school), a copy is not a problem.

The letters are all typed in the school's letterhead, with the school's emblem on it and has been stamped with the school seal. But do I have to get a new seal on it everytime its sent to one of the colleges, or does a photocopy of the original suffice?

The point is that the recs and school report must be sent out by the SCHOOL, not you. Even if you have copies of everything, the school must send it out.

Your school can send a photocopy, as long as the original was stamped and signed by the teacher. But the SCHOOL has to send it. You can't.

I know, but my teachers said that they will give it out in a sealed school envelope etc and I have to send it through courier or airmail by myself.... They wont bear the charges, cos its pretty expensive.... So what do I do?

Guidance dep't?

I'm assuming you're an international- maybe look up the cost, then offer to reimburse them?

Go to the post office to find out how much an envelope of that size and contents would weigh, purchase the postage, put it on the envelope and have the school mail it.

Or -- have a school guidance office person sign the outside seal of the envelope, and you take it to a courier service (FedEx or the like) and you pay postage. make sure the school's return address is on the oputside of the envelope. The point is, it must be clear that the school can vouch for the security and accuracy of the inside contents.

uh, I mailed my stuff. just, the return address was the guidance dept at my school, and there was a school seal on the outside of the envelope. i paid for it...

yeah... i am an international.... I told my school about this and they said that they would give it in a sealed school's envelope with the school seal and return address printed on the outer cover of the envelope and they would sign it before they give it to me to post... That should be fine from what CountingDown said right?

Yup...that sounds good! Good luck -- sometimes I think that if you can get through the application process and all the minutiae, that should qualify as an auto-admit! When I applied to college, there were no essays, no rec letters -- just the app, activity resume and grades/scores from the GC.

I am an international as well and my school doesn't have any specific kind of envelope or whatever. I photocopied the written forms, but without the signature, so all the documents will be signed in original. In that case, do I still need to get the envelopes signed by a school official?

Thanks! LOL, wont it be nice if it were that way! I think you may need to get a school seal on the outside of the envelope ur using and a signature.... i am not sure though
