Hey, I'm a senior with a low GPA (3.0), fairly good test scores (1440 Reading + Math on the SAT, 30 ACT Composite), and fairly good ECs: Organized a city-wide arts benefit concert in my freshman year, active member in my church choir and youthgroup, member of the sophomore and junior team board, participant in Model UN, president of the young democrats this year, member of the golf team, and most recently an Organizing Fellow for the Obama Campaign (kind of like a glorified intern: somewhere between intern, and paid staffer).
I'm interested in majoring in political science, but obviously, my options as far as colleges are concerned are somewhat limited by my grades. If possible, I'd like to go to college somewhere in the New England/ Mid-Atlantic region. Do you all have any suggestions for colleges that I could feasibly get into, with at least a somewhat respectable poli sci program?
I really have no idea what I should even be looking for. Should I just try to go somewhere local, and transfer out in a couple of years? I live in Texas, and money is not an issue, if that matters.
Thanks

I would just go some where local for now, and transfer out later.

I had slightly better stats than you (3.3 W, 3.2 UW GPA; 1460 M+R SAT, 790 and 740 on SAT IIs) and I got rejected to UC Santa Cruz. (about 100th in the nation) And that was in-state. I had very few ECs, so I'd suggest trying your luck anyway.

Look at Drew University and George Mason University. They have top-notch political science/government programs that any B student can get into. Good Luck!

Thanks, I would have never even thought to look at Drew.
Much appreciated.
