I've looked through previous threads, yet none of them really answered my question:

I am submitting (or at least plan on submitting) 4 recommendations - 2 teachers, 1 supplementary and 1 counselor.

Northwestern only recommends 1 teacher and requires 1 counselor.

Is this too much? NU doesn't explicitly forbid/discourage additional recommendations and I'm confident each rec will convey a different aspect of my personality, so should I just go ahead with it?

What do they say about supplemental information in general? I'm thinking its probably not a good idea to send four recs, mostly because they have to go through lots of other applications-if everyone sent double the # of recs they'd go crazy! I'd suggest keeping them for if you are waitlisted or something.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

In the info sessions they recommend just the required two, and say that three is okay, but really beyond three they aren't going to take them into as much consideration.
