So I'm looking on the Stanford website; it says it requires two teacher recommendations. But on the common app, it says that I must request a counselor recommendation as well. Does Stanford need this? Does the common app actually need this?

Also, is it a good idea to get a recommendation from one science teacher and one math teacher? I know for sure I'm asking for one from my chemistry teacher (taught me for 2 years, likes me a lot, went to Stanford, its perfect). But for my second teacher recommendation I'm not sure who I would ask besides my math teacher from last year. I'm not sure how much my English teacher liked me last year, so I don't know if it would be best to get a recommendation from her. My 10th grade English teacher liked me a lot, but that was kind of too long ago. Is it wise to ask for recommendations only from math and science teachers? Or will it make me look too focused or narrowed? I love reading and love writing even more, but unfortunately I'm not sure if I have any teachers that can reflect that as well as my math and chemistry teachers can reflect my passion in those subjects. Thoughts?

Yes, the counselor recommendation is required by the Common Application, and by every college as far as I know.

Submit the two most favorable/detailed/personal teacher recommendations you can get. Use other parts of your application (e.g., essays) to make clear your literary interests.

Can the counselor be the same as the teacher? I put my English teacher for years 9 and 10, now I got a different Eng teacher but he remains as my counselor. Is he supposed to write 2 letters?

The GC recommendation ranks your performance relative to that of all of your peers in terms of class rank and the academic rigor of your entire transcript. They also provide other relevant information about your school. Your teacher can usually only talk about you in relation to your peers in his/her classes - so a much narrower, but probably deeper lens. That’s why schools want recs from both - once you see the rec forms in the common application, you’ll appreciate the difference.

Ah sorry for the late response, so I need 3 teachers then?? My counselor was also my teacher, and I put his contact info for both counselor and teacher. I need a new teacher for a letter now?
