It shouldn't matter if my teacher recommendation is online and my counselor rec is mailed correct? I didn't submit my counselor's email to UMD's new online recommendation system so I'm not sure if I should?

I know that for the Common App, you're supposed to submit a counselor's email regardless if they're doing electronic or hard copies.

The more you can do electronically, the less chance there is for something to get lost. If you can get your counselor’s email address onto the system, that would be better. Regardless, just keep watch on the status updates for your application to make sure they receive them. If it shows that the mailed rec (or online one) was not yet received, you can follow up with your teacher or counselor. The worst thing that people do is to not keep track to make sure that all their application materials have been received on time.

Unfortunately, my counselors are technologically-impaired so they insist on sending counselor recs and transcripts by snail mail. My teachers however, are more flexible, thankfully.

Thanks for the tip!

Ask your teachers to print and seal the rec…they should sign the back over the seam to prove it is their rec. and place it into a file in case you need to snail mail it.

Like astro stated keep watch on the status. If you are not seeing it show up, at least you have this as a back-up. You don’t have to be now at the mercy of the teacher to have them dig through the bowels of their computer to find that rec.
