Hey all! So I'm going to be a freshman in SEAS next yr, hopefully majoring in Earth and Environmental Engineering, and was thinking abt buying a new graphing calculator. I currently have a TI-83, but was stuck between getting a TI-89 or TI-nSpire (I think that's what it's called). What do you think? Are we even allowed to use these calculators on exams? If not, do they come in handy for problem sets? Thanks in advance!

your TI-83 should be good enough and probably won’t make a difference …some profs make you use a scientific calculator because they’re afraid you’ll program cheat notes into your calculator

thanks! :)

To my knowledge no EEE prof makes you use a sci/4-func calc as opposed to a graphing. I’m only a EEE minor tho so I’ve not taken every class in the department so I wouldn’t take my word as gospel…

The TI-89 is worth learning to use, as opposed to the TI-83 tho…

hmm…yea thats what i was thinking abt buying…so getting a TI-nSpire is prob not worth it, right?
