Recommended coaches @ MTCA (Musical Theater College Auditions) & College Audition Coach

We are primarily interested in one-on-one coaching for the following:

  1. resume review and headshot selection
  2. preparation of prescreen materials (singing, monologues and dance)

While expensive, MTCA (Musical Theater College Auditions) and Mary Anna Dennard seem to have solid reputations.

Does anyone have recommendations of specific coaches at MTCA and College Audition Coach for someone interested in Musical Theater and wanting help in the above areas?

What questions would you ask to determine what coach would be the best fit?

How often do you work with more than one resource (e.g., for areas of specialization)?

Are any of the master classes worth the investment / extra cost? If so, which ones are recommended?

I messaged you thoughts from our particular experience. About the masterclasses- yes yes yes. One of the most helpful turning points last summer for my daughter. She worked her monologues with Barabara from CMU and really got a sense of where she stood in relation to the other kids. Our list of schools and her core goals changed and were altered by their masterclass weekend in ways we did not expect. She learned so much and it helped shape her path forward big time. Can’t say enough about that. I know it’s expensive but for us it turned out to be pretty priceless.

MTCA will get to know your student through questionnaires, interview and consultation. From there, they will assign you coaches based on best fit (your student’s type, vocal type, personality, strengths, weaknesses, etc). Monologue coaches, song rep coaches and vocal technique coaches are separate. After your consultation, Ellen will outline expected time for each line item you want or need help with. You are no under obligation to utilize them for everything they recommend and you can switch coaches if they end up being not a good fit for your student. They know what they are doing and I will say they pegged my daughter very quickly and their recommendations were what I expected.
