Recommended Hotel for a Visit?

Hi. I'm scheduling a visit to Wash U with my S in November and was wondering what hotels are most convenient to the campus? Also, if you have any favorite dining spots nearby, I'd love to hear that too. Thanks!

I have a list of a few hotels that are near the school (WashU sent this list to me when I visited) and it also says that some may offer a special rate to WashU visitors if you call and ask.

Clayton on the Park - 314 721-6543
Radisson Hotel-Clayton - 314 726-5400
Residence Inn by Marriott - 314 862-1900
Ritz-Carlton-St. Louis - 314 863-6300
Sheraton Clayton Plaza 314 863-0400

The closest "hotel" to campus is actually ON campus! The business school has hotel accomodations in the Knight Center. From their website the room looks nice and hard to beat the location! They cater primarily to business travelers so young children are not welcome. They will ask about your connection to the campus. Just tell them prospective student visit. The rate listed on the website $169.00 is their 'blackout' days room price, ie graduation, parent's weekend, etc. The rate I was quoted when I contacted them directly was $109.00/night. The phone # is 866-933-9400 for the Knight Center. I'm staying there this weekend so hope it's as nice as it looks. Planning to spend most of the time on or very near campus (which is beautiful by the way) with no car, so saving taxi $ I'd have spent going back and forth to campus. Good luck with your visit!

I just visited last week... so you know, Crown Plaza just bought the Radisson in CLayton so don't drive around looking for a Radisson. I recommend it because its like 3 minutes from main campus, and its clean and affordable.

Thanks for the info everyone. So the Crowne Plaza is clean and comfortable? I just looked it up on tripadvisor and it has mixed reviews.

The Knight Center is actually really nice. I have stayed there. For dining, you should go to the Loop. It is a few blocks away from campus and it has lots of restaurants.

Mariana -- The Knight Center looks great, although it appears that it only has rooms with one queen bed. I don't think my S will appreciate that sleeping arrangement. I'll call to check. Thanks.

The Chase Park Plaza is close to Wash U, clean, and lovely. It is the nicest hotel we have stayed in while visiting St. Louis. It is located near the medical school campus and is literally 2 miles from the main campus. It was cheaper than the Crown Plaza during parents weekend. We really disliked the Crowne Plaza on the two occasions we stayed there. Our rooms were not especially clean and it was noisy.

My S is a freshman at WUSTL and we always stay at the Sheraton in Clayton. Fancy, no, but its clean and close to campus. There are also some good restaurants in Clayton that you can walk to. The Blue Elephant is good for Thai, FIrst Watch has great breakfast/lunch and Cafe Napoli was good upscale italian. The restaurants on the Loop are fun...can't go wrong with a burger at Fitz's and you can walk from the campus if the weather is good. That's what we did last year when we visited and it allowed him to really get a feel for how far from campus that area is. Another suggestion for restaurants is the Central West End on the other side of FOrest Park. Lots of restaurants, galleries and small shops. This area is close to the Chase Park Plaza recommended above.
Have a great time. My S couldn't be happier.

We just stayed at Clayton on the Park--$155 per night from hotels.com. It is all-suite, and we were there visiting with our teenaged daughter, so for $10 extra, we got a comfy air mattress for her.

Food--we just ate at Melange in Central West End--excellent! Also, Luciano's near the Ritz in Clayton--superb. For great steaks, Sidney Street Cafe.

Oh, and if you're on a long haul trip, stop at the City Museum downtown. It's basically a huge playground and the best stress relief anywhere, I highly recommend it.

Just got back from St. Louis and 2 nights at the Knight Center on campus. Great stay! Accomodations were beautiful. Service with a smile. H is planning a stay there next month when he goes to StL on business.
