<p>I'm going to NYU Poly for Electrical and Computer Engineering and I was just wondering what kind of laptop would someone recommend to use? I know that there are certain programs are going to be needed for the classes I'm taking, and the laptop I have right now is old, and is still running on Vista. Also, I'm enrolled in the General Studies Program, and its mandatory for one of the classes.</p>
<p>What kind of laptop should I get? And should I get it from the school store or elsewhere?</p>
<p>I’m in Tisch so I won’t be able to tell you what laptop is best for Poly, however I do recommend getting it from the NYU computer store if you go with a Mac. You can save several hundred dollars that way (about the only place NYU offers discounts). Most students at NYU do have a Mac, but it’s not abnormal to have a PC.</p>
<p>@Alexxmichele (and everyone else) you get the exact same discounts through the Apple education store if you enter your NYU email :)</p>
<p>I was reading through the recommended laptop that is being offered at the NYU Computer Store, and its kinda expensive. I was able to find another laptop that costed half as much but it was only 5400 RPM. Does anyone know if this will make a big difference? Would I still be able to run the necessary programs?</p>
