One of the questions in the UChicago supplement is: "How does the University of Chicago, as you know it now, satisfy your desire for a particular kind of learning, community, and future?"

Is there a word limit for this question? If not, what would be the recommended length of a response to this question?

Thanks in advance! Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Because it is very open-ended and personal, I would fully answer the question–however long that is for you. I was accepted with an essay that was 450 words.

I was accepted with an essay length of about 700 words. But mine was on the lengthier side of things because I’ve been on campus three times and I had a lot to say

I am also wondering about this question Jence. It seems that in past years, while the limit may have been closer to 500, they’ve reduced it to 250. At least that’s what it seems to say on the common app sidebar, but it’s unclear, and I’d love to know too!

All of my essays were just under 500 words and I was accepted EA!
It seems as though you should aim for a length that will allow you to thoroughly express yourself and make your point; some people do this well in longer essays and some do this better in shorter essays. It depends on the student.

I emailed the UChicago admissions office earlier with the same question.

Here is what they said:

"We recommend a couple of paragraphs – there’s no specific word limit. I’ve seen good ones that are as short as a paragraph or as long as a page and a half. So two paragraphs seems like a good middle ground.

Hope this helps. Good luck finishing up!"

It seems like length isn’t a big deal, so I won’t worry about it too much anymore. @andros12
