Recommended secondary mouse for notebooks? Laptop lock? ect?

Hello,

I was wondering if you guys recommend a mouse aside from the notebook touchpad for college? Anything else I should look at aside from a laptop lock?

ty

Yes to mouse. The basic logitech laser mouse (~$15) is good.

any cheap mouse works, really...though a brand name might mean better quality. i have a microsoft optical wheel mouse, my sister has a labtec (cheap logitech). both have their quirks but they still work fine.

when you buy a lock, note that most key or combo locks you'll find are easily defeated. you want a keyed lock that uses a normal key slot and not a circular one, so that rules out kensington, targus, and most other key lock manufacturers. if you can't find one that fits your budget (or one at all) then get a combo lock. just make sure it has at least 4 dials.

i'm ordering a laptop lock off securitykit.com

Find an old IBM mouse on eBay. You can find some new old stock ones on there pretty easily. They have a miniature mouse designed for ThinkPads that will work as long as you have a PS/2 port (and even if you don't the adaptors aren't overly expensive). These mice were well-built and come highly recommended.

Definitely get a mouse. I can't recommend a cheap one, because mine is a relatively expensive Logitech laser mouse (I'm a PC gamer). Don't forget a mousepad.
I don't think a laptop lock is necessary, though I guess it doesn't hurt to have one. Your laptop is least likely to be stolen when it's in your room as long as you (and your roomie) lock the room when you leave.

You might also want to get a cheap USB flash drive. You probably won't use it often but it can be convenient if you just need to take some documents or a powerpoint presentation with you or need to transfer it to another computer (email isn't always a viable option for larger files).

thanks a bunch for the very helpful tips so far! the notebook I use does not haev a standard mouse port, so Im assuming I need a mouse that connects via the USB?

yep

tenchar

You'll have a hard time finding a decent mouse that isn't USB

oh, lol. Do you guys recommend a wireless?

For a laptop, yes I would reccommend a wireless mouse. They're only a couple bucks for than a wired one and it'd be easier to take care of.
