I plan on applying to Tisch and i know it is very creative artistically wise, but how about academics? I want to know how grueling you guys think my senior course load should be. How many math classes, english, social studies foreign lang. etc. are recommended?

I would suggest 3-4 of each of those. I had 4 math, 4 english, 3 science, 4 social studies, 3 of spanish and 2 of sign language. Their take on academics is the same as any other school within NYU- they regard them very highly.

I've heard some people say that they think Tisch is one of the harder schools to get into because you are judged on academics AND talent, one usually isn't regarded more highly than the other (and the woman who auditioned me reiterated this, as well).

Just follow basic NYU guidlines, and you'll be fine...

3 of spanish and 2 of sign language.

that'sreally impressive. id count that as 5 language credits.

"Just follow basic NYU guidlines, and you'll be fine"

yep.;)

well im not applying to tisch (cas)- but a competitive couseload is most important
nyu- esp. tisch- is getting really selective

i have from fresh-senior yr:
4 math, 4 engl (school only offers 4), 5 science, 3 social sciences (school only offers 3), 3 japanese (reached highest level), 1 stage tech, 1 architecture, 1 adv. vocal music, 1 forensics

i also have summer classes:
2 math, 1 spanish, 1 social science

it's not just your courseload- it's also your courseload's difficulty
so just take as many difficult classes as you can

good luck to you!
it seems as though you already have a headstart just by being on these forums in your junior year!

your school offers sign language?? that's so cool!

your school offers japanese?! haha. My school only offers French, Spanish, German, and Sign Language (ASL). Sometimes I think the only reason they adopted ASL is for the stupid jocks who have failed out of the first year of every other language (I'm not joking...it's pathetic).

Yea, and the real reason I took ASL was as a GPA booster. Haha, I still like it all the same though. And I wish my school gave me 5 credits. Technically, all your graduation credits can only come from one language, so I really only have 3 foreign language credit by their count.

I got into Tisch this year for Film. My senior schedule is:
Yearbook (editor in chief, DVD editor)
AP Gov.
AP Econ
AP Euro
AP Stats
AP English.

I doubt you have to take as many AP's, and I would recommend you don't because it sucks.

If you can I would definitely apply to the summer program. I did it last summer and I know it really helps in admissions.

Good luck!

I'll be finishing my senior year with seven AP's

AP english III(taking now)
AP english IV
AP Biology(taking now)
AP environmental science
AP US history(taking now)
AP Gov.
AP psychology

It's going to be hard, but well worth it....

i go to a public school in san fran... so yeah.. our school offers a lot, we use to have italian, german, and latin in addition to japanese, chinese, spanish, and french. they were cut out one by one over the budget cuts of the last few years :(
we also lost ap psych

still, sign language seems cool! i havent heard of any school in san fran, public or private, offering sign language.

Talk about a major pain in the a*%

AP US History
AP World History
AP/GT (gifted & talented placement) English III
AP/GT English IV
AP Art History

(I hate math and science and never AP'ed those...haha). I have four years of Theatre though and am president in our audition-only theatre class within our school.

I'm proof that being an overachiever won't always get you into NYU, so don't stress too much. Do what you can, what you love, and make the most of it.
