Recommended summer study skills class?

My twins are 9th graders in an IB high school. I fear that they have not learned many study skills so far since their curriculum is fairly easy so far (the IB curriculum ramps up in 11th and 12th grade, but isn’t that challenging in 9th). I do realize that will change dramatically when they are juniors and will be taking lots of IB DP courses. I worry they won’t be prepared for the leap in rigor since they don’t tend to do any homework currently.

I’m thinking they would benefit from a study skills course this summer to prepare them for the more challenging courses ahead of them. Do you have any recommendations? Open to online courses or even a summer camp that would offer a class that teaches study skills.

I am not sure about the study skills. But if you have them each read two books a day, either fiction or non-fiction, then they will continue to coast for the rest of the high school. If you feel compelled, you can have them do some math, but that is not crucial.

Although written for college students and using themes like creating time to drink beer, I’ve found no better book on study habits. Like your students, my son was already a straight A student, but coasting and inefficient. He put these practices to work in HS and ended up graduating Magna Cum Laude from a program with a average graduating GPA of 2.7, all while working 12-20 hours per week. Get it. Make them read it.
