I was accepted under the 2+2 program but I reached out for an appeal and they said they will give my application a second review but I would have to be reconsidered for a different program… Which one is the easiest to get into? I’ll list them below. I have B+ grades and take pretty decent courses (3.5 GPA). Thanks in advance!
College of Agricultural Sciences College of Arts and Architecture Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications College of Education College of Health and Human Development College of the Liberal Arts College of Earth and Mineral Sciences College of Engineering College of Information Sciences and Technology Eberly College of Science
What major did you originally apply for? Did you apply DUS as was suggested in October? Are you still interested in business? Agriculture, HHD, and Education are probably somewhat easier to get into, but it won’t help to choose those if you have no interest in those subjects.
i applied DUS because I heard that it I applied for smeal I would have no shot of getting in. I would be fine with applying for something else as long as I can easily change my major later, after I’ve been accepted. I just have to figure out what’s easiest to get into.
The only paths to a business (Smeal) major at UP are through admission to (pre)Smeal or DUS. You cannot switch to Smeal from a major in any other college. Business-related majors outside of Smeal include Agribusiness Management, Health Policy and Administration, Energy Business and Finance, and Economics.
It is absolutely true that you can’t get into Business from any other major than DUS or business pre major. But there are ways around it. If you have already been denied for DUS, then you need to find a major that is less competitive than DUS. College of Ag or some liberal arts majors may work. Definitely NOT Eberly college of science, IST, Engineering, oro Earth and Mineral science. Communications maybe. Then, if you are admitted, then after you arrive switch into DUS, which is pretty easy once you are a student.
Did you apply for summer? If I were you I’d pick a college of Ag major and add summer.
but the other piece of it is: be prepared to work. If you are starting in an easier major with the hopes of moving to Smeal, there are tough ETM (entrance to major) classes. Lots of kids think they are golden and are surprised when they get to Penn State. While I know you don’t want to hear it, sometimes the 2+2 is a great option for kids who might not be ready to be thrown in the deep end.
regardless, hit the ground running and you will do fine. Go to office hours, engage with the TA/LA, ask for help. Read ahead whenever you can so lectures are reinforcing rather than introducing.
