Reconsidering where to transfer, thoughts?

Originally I had planned to transfer into one of the state universities and hadn't given any thought to private institutions. For one thing, I've always thought they were too expensive and I also didn't really think I'd fit in. One of my classmates in the local community college just got accepted for a full ride to a really decent private university with the whole thing paid for. I didn't think it would be possible, but she got in with lower grades, lower sat and less financial need. I just chance'd it tonight on another site and I have a really good chance of getting in on a full ride.

I thought I would fit in at a large university so much better, but they never got around to reviewing my application for spring. The whole process left me very frustrated as my paperwork was lost on their end. It was just so impersonal.

I'm thinking I'm going to apply to the private university no matter what just to see what kind of financial aid is offered. This is probably going to sound stupid though, I have such a concern with going to a snobby school, I really wanted to attend where the kids of the regular people attend. But, I don't fit in there either apparently.

So, try to embrace the giant state university with its auditorium classrooms or dust off my piano and practice for an audition to minor in music at a private school?

Well, a full ride anywhere is hard to pass up, especially because the private will likely end up cheaper than the public school (assuming you get a full ride.) However, it also depends on what the two schools are; for example, are you turning down UCLA for Tougaloo College?

It all comes down to what you want. Some people prefer lectures, others prefer small class sizes. Public Universities have a much different vibe than small private colleges; make sure you visit both and decide where you can see yourself living for the next couple years.
