Do your kids record their lectures? If so what device do they use?
My son bought a LiveScribe SmartPen $199 and I was wondering if it would be useful compared to the price.

Yes, my son does record some lectures, but be sure to ask the professor first! I'll ask him when he gets home from work what device he uses.

Unless you're sure you'll listen to them later, it's probably not worth the trouble. Just taking good notes will be just as effective. I teach some small upper-level literature classes (10-12 students). When a student tells me he/she is going to be absent from a lecture with an excused absence, I record it myself for them to listen to on their own. That way, they get the same benefit as the rest of the class (not my highlights), and I don't have to schedule a make-up meeting unless the student has questions.

We were wondering the same thing, especially for language classes. If anyone has any recording device recommendations, please share!

oh my gosh my favorite way to record lectures (thought I do so very rarely) is through Word on my MacBook. It's so cool, I love it and would never get a separate device just for recording.

Word for Mac allows you to record your notes while you're typing your outline. Each bullet point also has capabilities to be a play button, so if I wanted to hear a section of the lecture that corresponds to a note I've taken, all I have to do is click on that note's bullet point.

LOVE IT.

That's amazing... I'm so using that.

Thanks kristin. D has a macbook, but was not sure how well the recording would work on it. She's at work now, I may have her PM you if she wants more info!

I have a MacBook and Word too. How do I record?
