Does anyone record their lectures? If so what device do you use?
My son bought a LiveScribe SmartPen $199 and I was wondering if it would be useful compared to the price.

yup ... i've seen people hold small tape recorders. usually people with devices sit in the front to get prof's voice clearer. but the smartpen definitely better choice since it won't look as obvious that ur recording.

Yes...I've seen many students record lectures. Some professors also record their lectures and post them on Blackboard.

some professors do not allow recordings..

I am afraid that, due to my poor English, I might have to record the lectures. That smart pen is kind of expensive for me, so can anyone suggest something worth buying?

I have something along these lines:
Digital Voice Recorder | Sony | SonyStyle US
I think I bought mine at Staples for about $60

Please do remember to get your professor's permission to record lectures ahead of time, though. Lecture notes and the presentations themselves are the intellectual property of the professors giving them.

Tommy

so i was really impressed by this smartpen...

does it really work as well as it sounds?!

hmm i think that the 'sound to word function' of the pen is probably incapable of producing a paragraph without mistake. and given that Cornell has professors from different parts of the world, i doubt if that little pen has the ability to interpret their accents

can't you just use the sound recording installed in your computer

would it then be good enough to record well?

my professors in ILR have been for the most part all american or at least english accented...
