I have been lurking on the board for quite some time now. Just figured I would post something I heard today. My son was wait-listed at Milton, BB&N and Dexter even though he is a strong candidate with an athletic hook. All three cited record-breaking application numbers this year. In fact, I heard from a reliable source at Milton that applications were up 30% this year! Why do you think this year is so crazy?
Every year is crazier than the last. :-S
If anyone has stats or when they come available…please post!
Milton was 1400 applicants for 95 open slots
Groton citing 1250 applicants for 95 spots.
What grade? 9th or all grades?
The Putney School which is off everyone’s radar had double the applicants since last cycle…besides the increase from overseas, folks are leaving public schools?
My DD attends a very small religious school and very few are going on to their respective LPHS. 17% of the graduating class will be attending BS (as day students). It has been a banner year for them.
Milton is 9th grade
I’ve been helping with applications last three years. Every year has been their record breaking year. I am certain that next year will be another record breaking year.
Exeter: 2340 applications for 307 spots. http://www.exeter.edu/news_and_events/news_events_17556.aspx
Last year Groton reported 1170 applications for 85 spots. More applications, but more spots.
Lawrenceville 1875 applications for 379 slots
I don’t remember the exact number, but Taft was something like 1650 applications for 155 spots.
Concord Academy - over 800 for 90 spots
Episcopal High School - over 600 for 125 spots
NMH School - over 1500 for ?? 175 ??
St. Andrew’s School - over 500 for 75 spots
Taft School - over 1675 over 180 spots
That number for Milton cannot be right. Milton is almost twice the size of Groton, yet it has the same number of open spots? Doesn’t make sense. Perhaps they have 95 spots for freshmen, but 80 or so spots in other classes? Or the number is actually 195? Given the numbers at other schools, 1400 must be all completed applications, not just for 9th grade.
Conversely, 379 must be the number of admitted students at Lawerenceville and not the number of spots; if they aim for a class of 237 (http://www.lawrenceville.org/data/files/gallery/ContentGallery/Lawrenceville_Fact_Sheet_201415.pdf), 379 admitted students would imply an expected yield of 62%, which sounds about right.
DD’s waitlist letter from Milton said “Milton received over 1,400 applications for fewer than 150 openings in our student body”…I took that to mean K-12 openings. Could be 9-12, though, I suppose.
Per email from Andover:
3,026 applied, 405 admitted 13% admit rate
Dying to know Choate’s stats for this year . . does anyone have them?
