Record Number of Applications, Reduced Class Size

I agree that the 14K difference is not worth it, especially when it comes to engineering. So go to UIUC.

Honestly I would agree that if you don’t care that much about the differences between NU and UIUC then you should go to UIUC and save the $56k. Use that as leverage and get a cool car from your parents.

Yeah if the added prestige, more intellectual atmosphere, and greater emphasis on the liberal arts in the larger university community don’t matter to you, save the money and go to UIUC. There are definitely intangible benefits to attending an elite university, but it’s up to each person if it’s worth the extra price. Besides, you might get a higher GPA at UIUC which could put you in a better position, depending on your goals. UIUC is a fine school.

Just saw this in an article…

"The admission process will be much tougher for the class of 2015, Watson said.

“It certainly means that we’re going to be much more selective this year,” he said. “The acceptance rate will be below 20 percent for the first time ever.”

saw this interesting study in the cornell thread indicating students’ revealed preferences - which touches on some of what I read in this thread about ‘winning cross applicants’. it wd have been nice to see this done each yr (this was done in 2005) to see trends. w/ NU at I thnk I recall, 23 or something, it means it wins ~pretty often. compare to Washu at 64 or 5!
