Record number of apps for Stanford

"Stanford received a total of 22,223 applications, a 10 percent increase over last year."

The only Ivy to beat Stanford was Harvard, who was the only Ivy to see a decrease in number of applications.

The admit rate will be around 10.7% assuming similar yield statistics compared to last year.

yea this year we got some rough competition. tho i guess it'd mean a slightly better/smarter class? :]

OMG!! will I go to college this year?? All schools marked an increase in application and I'm sure a lucky few will be monopolising the acceptances!!

Quite frankly this seems to be happening in many top colleges

I think college admissions will get harder and harder unless somebody does something to change it

Thanks for posting this, Zephyr. I know it must make you so extremely happy to see us suffer and struggle through this damned process. All for the sake of having your school's admit rate go lower right? Thanks, really.

I suffered through it too. So don't really tell me what it means to "suffer" and "struggle," okay?

Ugh, how depressing... getting lucky is going to be tough

Times like these make me want to hit myself... I should have applied EA to Stanford (18%) vs. MIT EA (12%, deferred). Now my chances at MIT are the same, and MIT's chances are lowered in RD.

NYU has 34000 applications.

How many from CA? I would guess around 17000.

Wow, not looking good. It seemed like every student taking honors classes applied to Stanford at my school.

yeah same here ramsfan...i wonder if they compare you to others at your school

altho most adcom's deny it, saying it's an "individual process," most of us can't help but compare ourselves to our peers as most schools don't get a lot of applicants accepted from one school.

From what I've heard, they don't compare you to others from your school, but they do compare you to others from your region.
