Wow! Not a surprise there were so many deferrals. I wonder what the numbers were for deferrals and rejections.

From what I heard, some 70% of EA applicants were deferred, probably because there were a lot of ED2 applicants, so NU wanted to look at students committed. Some yield protection as well.

Do you have a source about the deferrals?

Unfortunately its mostly speculation, but from what ive seen in past years, Northeastern has deferred upwards of 50% of EA applicants. I also looked through a lot of forums of decisions, and from this year, about 60-70% of decisions were deferrals.

Yeah, I wish NEU (and most colleges) were more transparent about numbers and the process.

dang applying to bovue instead of for journalism was not the move

I wonder how many students actually intend to go to Northeastern if accepted. I’m assuming the increased number of applicants is due to Northeastern not requiring the ACT/SAT because of COVID.

Likewise, many schools are seeing an increase in applicants. Students are probably just shotgunning the TOP 50s schools and hoping they can get in somewhere

That is one reason why Northeastern and similar schools are increasingly relying on ED.

Last year Northeastern’s yield was about 28%. That includes ED. It is comparable to the yield at BU and BC.
