I need advice from you seasoned auditioners. My dd is auditioning for 11 colleges this weekend at "Moonfieds" in Dallas. Only 2 of the colleges have a live piano accompanist. The other 9 want recorded piano tracks.
So my question is this, For the schools who want recorded tracks, should she also have additional tracks recorded beyond the 2 she is singing, in case the auditors ask her if she has anything else? Should they be on the same ipod/cd? Obviously they can't vocalize her, and her book of song rep is not going to be much good to her if there is no accompanist.
Help!!!!

Theres nothing to worry about! Everyone is in the same boat, I had 16, 32 and full cuts of both songs i was singing on one 1 cd (though i had like 8 copies because i was scared of losing it) and that was fine for all of my auditions, nobody ever asked for more songs, but sometimes they wanted the full song or to hear the cut again. If they want to hear more they wont expect you to have more tracks recorded. Most times though, they can tell about someones voice long before they reach 16 bars. The best thing you can do is find material that really works for you.

Moonfieds?

Thanks so much for your help (and PMs). DD did get her extra tracks on her iPod, but she hasn’t needed them so far (Otterbein, Point Park, Texas State, Marymount), but she has more auditions tonight and tomorrow (Penn State, U of Arts, Coastal Carolina) so she will be prepared, at least!
Moonifieds is a nickname. It’s like a mini Unifieds, colleges her coach brings in for her students. Its very cool, but its also very early and dd is trying to get it all together and d mother is playing catchup! Thanks for the PMs everyone.!

Best of luck! I did the Moonified auditions in 2009 and you have an incredible list of schools added, even since I attended! If you have any questions about the process or any of the schools specifically (I attend Coastal currently), feel free to send me a PM! :)

How many students must this coach have to be able to attract these schools to hold an audition day just for her kids? Hmm…not sure how I feel about this.

53 students attending

This is nothing new. Kids with well known/well connected coaches do have advantages. The playing field in MT (as in athletics) is not level. But, that being said (and I know people will criticize) there are always slots in all MT programs for the very talented (full of potential) kid from the middle of nowhere. Ya just gotta work a little harder!

And many performing arts High schools also have “private” auditions. Sometimes these auditions are just used to prescreen and invite certain kids to campus auditions, but other schools offer acceptances.

There is nothing secret going on here. Go to her website and click on coaching, She tells you the schools who come to this. Her website says “call me” for coaching. This is something you can all afford. A few skype lessons, you choose how much help you need. - but you do have to audition for her. Her website also tells you the kids she takes on “scholarship”- at no cost! The auditions are about talent. No school will take a kid they don’t want because they are at this audition. It is a service to the students and the parents. It saves them time and money and gives them a few extra minutes to let the schools get to know them. It is an audition and in the end, you are in that room all alone with your talent. If your kid played football, there would be a coach for that. Totally acceptable and actually a great service. No commercial, just a satisfied client.
