Recording Arts

I'm looking for any and all schools that have majors or even just a few courses in a recording arts/music technology/studio engineering/whatever names they use for it. I'd prefer public schools in CA because of the cost, but I'm open to all the suggestions i can get. thanks.

That's totally what I'm looking to do too. Check out USC (private school, sorry). It has an excellent music business program, which involves some studio engineering. Also, NYU is highly recommended. Schools in CALI. Anything in a city. Look for school in LA, like Loyla Marymond.. they have a degree in that. Also, SFSU up in San Francisco. City's are where you'll find your major. There's another school that specializes in engineering but its not really a school school. It's called Expressions in Emeryville, Ca. I think it's a secondary school but has a really good program. Hope i could help.

CSU Chico has what your looking for.

As does Indiana University, where you'd get to engineer recordings for great concerts.
Also Middle TN State, a very well-regarded program with good Nashville connections.

i'm still asking the same question, except now i'm completely open to ALL schools, not just in california and not just public. thinking of nyu and ithaca, any more suggestions? thanks!

Ya know.... if you did not mind a community college Mira Costa College in Oceanside has a top of the line recording arts program where you can earn a certificate and get a really good job. They work with pro-tools and the board. It's a great program if you don't mind doing it at a community college. Also, you learn from teachers in the bizz.

berklee school of music in boston, emerson in boston and five towns college in NY all have recording music/audio tech programs. Berklee is more of a music school-you must audition and be proficient in an instrument. Emerson is a little more preprofessional-prepares you for radio, tv etc. Five Towns is a mix of both-you don't need to play an instrument but it is a music school with preprofessional training. All give you a 4 year BM degree.

thanks for the replies. not really interested in community colleges... know of berklee and emerson, but haven't heard of five towns, i'll look into it, thanks. if anyone else has suggestions, they are welcome!

So what you're saying is Emerson is good for Music Technology kind of stuff? That's good. Very good news for me.

Would a 3.3-3.6/7 GPA be good enough? I have Music Technology experience and play two instruments, guitar and drums. I can also play the Saxophone fairly well, and have knowledge of the Cello.

There's an interesting program in Orlando, Fl. caled Full sail. It's worth taking a peek at.
