Recording lectures

Hi.

I was wondering if there are some people who record lectures either using a voice recorder or a webcam...I can't type fast and i thought it might be a good way to review or help out some friends who missed out a day or something...not a stalker or invading on privacy so don't call me a creeper or weirdo or sth. The biggest worry is that the professor might get p!55ed

Thanks

Some professors prohibit the use of recorders while others allow it. There are even some professors who record themselves and post it online so students who missed class know what happened. It all depends.

Is it often necessary to type down what the professor says verbatim?

Personally, I use a lot of abbreviations; that way, I don’t have to constantly worry about not keeping up. Then, if I absolutely need to, I go back and fill in the full words instead.

check out a livescribe pulse pen… my D uses it and just loves it I don’t know if she ever recorded lectures but the special notebooks for note taking she felt helped her tremendously in reviewing for tests and finals.

I’m currently still a hs senior , but I record lectures to fill in the details of things I miss that are important like dates and to see what I need to cut out when reviewing. (I sometimes tend to write down way more information than absolutely necessary). You really need to check with your prof about whether or not you can. Some prof’s will take material out of their published books or whatever and that will violate copy write laws. Also, it may be a personal preference.
