We got ours off ebay (because it was cheaper) but at the time our local music store also had some in stock.

Many music stores carry them–I have seen them in local music stores as well as in other states when we had to buy a second one (long story). Also Amazon.

We got it from an associated seller on amazon and got the accessory pack with it - tiny tripod, usb stuff, plug in stuff, soft foam mic cover thingy, memory card, etc. S uses those all the time. I bought a 20 ft extension cord to put in the carrying case as well so that he can use it plugged tot he wall or some other on stage port most of the time. It was $219 I think with the accessory pack

I don’t think they make the Q3 anymore - the Q2 HD was the newest model at the time when we purchased in the fall - I went round and round trying to figure out the difference when researching before I figured that out. One usually would think that the 3 was newer if going by iphone standards ;)

Best buy will price match and get the zoom q2 hd sown to 165. They said any tripod would work with it. I definitely think a plug in would be necessary.

We did a practice run yesterday…wow. The sound was amazing. Even when my son went flat a few times it didn’t sound like something was dying like on my fone.lol. His confidence is restored! Yay. I did get the accessory kit at the guitar center. We’re plugging it in with an extension cord for our long session. The monitor feature was very helpful. You can plug in headphones and listen to the recording. We noticed right away that the stage made his sound hollow. So he’s performing on the floor. It was a good thing to know. I also noticed the mini tripod worked better with the q2 hd.

So glad it is working out, cellomom!

Excellent news, cellomom6!

Yeah! I would advocate using the extension whenever possible, and storing that in little carrying bag along with extra long life lithium batteries for the emergency where there is no outlet. They really do suck batteries dry in a hurry and you could lose material if it happens.

I’ll get the lithium batteries for sure. I have to say my son did great. He had the stomach flu till 3 am friday. Had a practice run at 12. A performance that night at 730. And then the real thing today from 12 till 2 and straight to rehearsal till 6 pm. And he sounded pretty good in spite of feeling crappy. We wouldn’t have done it but it was the only time.

I’m glad I popped into this thread. My daughter is trying for a merit scholarship to the Berklee 5 week program and they require 2 recordings. I have a camera that records video really well, but not so great with audio. I would think the audio would be the primary concern for the audition. We are also probably going to rent a room to do the recording - it is a well lit room in a church with a beautiful grand piano and terrific acoustics for voice.

I agree. The sound was the most important. The zoom q2hd was so so on video quality and stellar for audio. Best buy will price match. So I got mine for 165 without waiting for shipping. And the manual made it very simple. Also, put their sd card to download their software right away or could end up with some problems like me downloading it from their website.

And on a positive note, his intonation was pretty good according to his teacher…Phew.

One more thing. Unless you are technically savvy, record a minimum of one week before recording is due. We did a week and that was barely enough time to get feedback from his teachers, download any software I needed, have the stomach bug and I just finished submitting the day before due. My son is usually the knowledgeable one on this subject but he had technical issues and I had to resolve them while he was at school. The decision desk support personnel was great.
