Recovering from a bad quarter (or two)

I had a bad quarter in which I got 2 B’s, a C+ and a D (though the last is going to be changed because it is NOT deserved). I go to UCSC, so I have an evaluation in each class that is pretty positive (and the one for the C+ class, though it exaggerates the bad parts, reflects that I had these problems during the quarter). I’m not having a very good quarter right now, either, and I project more B’s.

If I’m correct, my current GPA (with the D, that will change to at least a B – only a 2-credit, though, whereas the rest are 5 credit) is 2.72 (2.87 if the D becomes a B). Ouch! I know I can do better than this, and I would do a lot to have that GPA wiped so that I can start on fresh ground. I have the opportunity, now, to move back in with my family (free rent…) and go to CC near there. I have heard that if you transfer into a CC, your credits are transferred but your GPA is not, and will likely only come up again if you apply for graduate school (or probably transferring to another 4-year).

What I would like is some advice. Would it be better for me to suck it up and finish my degree at UCSC, and get past that really terrible start, or would it be better to go to CC for two years and then transfer to a 4-year to finish?

Why is your gpa so important to you? If you apply to grad or professional school, they will ask for those grades from UCSC, and that is where they will have the most impact. Otherwise it is not that big of a deal. .

Because I may make my B.A. my terminal degree, which would make my GPA haunt me forever.

Or am I imagining that? O_o

On a side note, it's also that I may find those bad quarters easier to explain if I do what I think I might and move home to help alleviate the financial burdern of going to college and give myself a chance to "recharge." I am regretting going straight to college and I think I would very much have benefitted from a year off. Better late than never, right? Eh.

Does anyone have any advice? Maybe some corrections? There's a lot about this that I'm not sure about, such as whether the GPA is wiped or not, and whether my GPA sticks with me in case the B.A. is my terminal degree.

At this point, I'm pretty positive that I am at least taking a sabbatical. What I am not sure about is what I will do during this time, or if I'm going to try and do the CC-to-4-year thing.

Opinions?
