[] School Type: public

[li] Gender: male[/li][/ul]Other Factors: I will comment on my rank and GPA. I know some of you are thinking “he doesn’t deserve to get in his grades suck.” Au contraire. The reason for my low grades is due to my communistic sophmore principal. At the end of my soph. year my grandmother dies and as a result i missed all of my finals and the make up dates. the principal was unrelenting and never let me make up the exams so all of my A’s went to C’s, and a B went to a D. Without that semester i am ranked top 20 with a 4.15. I truly believe Brown will consider your grades in a different light if something like my situation occurs. also i’ve had one of the three highest GPA’s every semester since then. my advice for other athletes: show you have a passion besides sports, i am also president of our schools key club which is the second largest in the country, and was involved in several leadership positions in school that are given solely on principal and teachers recommendations.
General Comments: Brown will be a great school. Just to add something interesting i plan to double major in human biology and economics.

Congratulations buddy, I hope you have a great four years in Providence.

Congratulations. How do you communicate a situation like yours [Sophomore year] to the school?

what sport were you recruited for?...my friend just got accepted yesterday for wrestling

first let me say that i am somewhat relieved nobody has said anything obnoxious like "you dont deserve to go to Brown because of low GPA, class rank, etc..." I created this thread mainly to serve as a reference to future CCers because there werent any ivy league accepted athletes who really told about how they got in.

Artyyy- very good question. the process actually started at the end of my junior year when i was getting recruited and i knew that bar second semester sophmore year i was extremely qualified for ivy calibur schools. i personally went in and talked to my counselor about the situation, and she recommended the best way to deal with it was to have her write up a letter and send it to every coach who currently was recruiting me and see what happened from there. after sending the letter most of the coaches responded with "the admissions office definitely takes these types of situations into consideration." after receiving the coaches support i made sure to comment on what happened in my application with an extra letter i typed up. also i dont know how many schools would do this but my school was able to calculate my GPA/class rank without my one bad semester and sent that in as well. if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

ididyourmomagain- i dont really want to say what sport i got recruited for yet (will do at the end of the summer so all the future brunonians can look me up), but i will say it was not for any of the major sports (ie football, basketball, baseball)

I am also a recruited athlete that just accepted into brown and my stats are similar to yours. what sport do you play?

congratulations to each of you:)

congratulations. i would also like to be recruited, wherever i go.
