hello. does anyone know to what extent a uc coach will go to get an athlete. i have a 2.9 gpa at the end of junior year, but am being recruited by coaches at uc and state schools. if the coach wants me bad enough will they tap my name into the system so im guaranteed in? as well, if i do well on the act and do well senior year will that help any? thanks for the help!

Which uc? Sport?

There is no guarantee with any school

–as the Coaches ask–Admissions admits.

2.9…is that unweighted???
Do you have honors and APs?

How were your PSATs? Have you taken any SATs or ACTs yet?

Check each of the schools mid 50% scores etc to see where you fit.

You need to do your own research–
Look up the admitted stats of the people (recruting times) of the last couple of classes in front of you…
and go to the common datat set for the admit stats.

depends on the sport, but i would ask. because it is a state school i bet you’re set :)

UC’s have low academic standards for athletes, and can go as low as the ncaa minimum…look it up, 2.9 gpa means you’ll need something like a 1500 SAT to pass the ncaa minimum. I know UC athletes in the non revenue sports who get in with low, low stats…for instance rugby players at Cal or track and field at UCLA.

^ really?
wow. that isn’t so good.
Wonder what the graduation rate is for them

don’t know graduation rates other than what I see on TV with their football and bball players…do any basketball players at Cal, UCLA or other top D1 schools actually graduate:) It was big news last year at UCLA that Troy Aikman finally graduated. What is he now about 47 years old or so. He promised his mom he’d graduate, so he finally went back to UCLA and did it.

I think it’s great that rugby players for instance can get in to Cal with low stats, I think good athletes deserve an opportunity, I don’t know their graduation rate. But the one rugby player I referred to did graduate. I don’t think he was a math major:)
