Heard from a friend who rowed at Cornell and graduated 2 years ago that Princeton denied him because the absolute cutoff for athletes regardless was a 1450. Times probably have changed, I was wondering whether anyone knew or had an idea what that minimum or near minimum is

A 1450? Yeah right......

Unless I'm mistaken, the cutoff is 1200 (at least for Princeton).

i don't think there is necessarily a "cutoff." The ivy league schools use the academic index, and i think that an athlete's academic index has to be at least 180. This factors in SAT scores, GPA, and class rank. But i also think that the lower you are on the recruiting list, the more important your SAT's are. So if you are an athlete and your SAT's are 1450, your class rank is just barely top 20%, your only ec is the sport you play, and although you are being recruited you are not one of the top recruits that the coach is really pushing for, then yeah, you'll probably be rejected. There are so many factors that are involved besides SAT scores, and your friend was probably rejected for a number of reasons which, as with everything concerning adcoms, are impossible to figure out.

I have a friend who was recruited for Princeton and he got in with a 1200 flat. But, I wouldn't go as far as to say that is the cutoff or anything. Princeton says they don't have cutoffs. At least they say that, you know? Regardless, believe what you will.

i got in with a 1230

There is no absolute cut off, don't let anyone tell you otherwise

There is a cutoff for the Ivy League, its an AI of 169. Any athelete below that must go through a special process at an all Ivy meeting. Needless to say, unless you were Matt Leinhart, you have no chance of getting in with a 168 or lower. Additionally, the average AI of a team must be within 1 s.d. of the school's average AI, meaning Harvard, Yale and Princeton do indeed face a harder time recruiting than Columbia, Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth and Penn.

PimpDaddy is right. Also rowers usually have higher SAT scores than most of the other sports. These schools depend on rowers and a couple of other sports to pull up the averages of the other athletes. The two rowers I know from Princeton both have 1500+ scores. Football, basketball, and hockey tend to have lower scores on average and lower AIs.

Princeton wrestling has the second highest gpa in the NCAA behind Brown. (Fluuuke) I have to think hockey players have the lowest, no offense to any hockey players but at my school they're a bunch of gorillas. I actually think I did see that stat somewhere.

Hmm... Can you tell me anything else about Princeton Wrestling?

^^Depends, are you good? If you are then no because I don't want you to take my spot :)

I wasn't looking to get recruited. I would lose interest if I had to wrestle to go to Princeton. And besides I'll be honest I am no state champ. I was just curious about Pton Wrestling.

^^ I was kidding, I'd be happy to give you info, just shoot me a pm.
