I was wondering if this would affect your chances at top schools. I play sports and was wondering what would happen if I dont intend to play that sport in college since I want to focus on studying and probably playing intamurals instead to save time. Would being a recruited athlete help you in top schools if you don't plan on playing sports such as football or track.

I don't really understand the question. Why would you be recruited if you don't plan to play in college? Are you asking if you could be recruited for a sport into college, and then stop playing it?

Recruitment helps you get in, but varies on how much from school to school (and athlete to athlete). And recruitment still can help even if its not football and track.
