<p>I wanted to know about how much being a recruited athlete helps in the process of early admission at Harvard…and how coaches communicate their preference for a student to the admissions committee…any insight would be appreciated </p>

<p>it depends on how good you are, and at what sport, obviously no one here is qualified to give a true answer, but i get the feeling that you still have to show you are capable of being at Harvard, obviously your stats and such can be lower than the avg applicant, because the school knows you will be a valuable assest to them.</p>

<p>I'm not crew, but track/XC. The coach has been in touch with my coach regarding my times. I've broken 2 records in XC this year, but it's really my first year to run XC. I have run track for about 6 years, though, and absolutely love it. My SAT score (2nd time) is 1590, but I'm still waiting to hear about the SAT II's. I'm not sure if I am being recruited or not. How would I know? Do they actually come right out and tell you?</p>
<p>Hi Navygirl - "recriuting" can mean a variety of things. At the top some Division I schools will pay for campus vists, send coaches, to visit your home and games, and ultimately might offer scholarships. At the other end coaches may share information about their program, phone or e-mail occationally, and encourage you to appply ... I would call this "recriuting" but it is a far cry from the heavy duty first case. The rules of what is allowed varies greatly by division (DI, DII, and DIII) and by sport. But bottom line, you will know if you are being recruited.</p>
<p>I think that with a 1590, broken XC records, communication between your coach and Harvard's coach, and top 5% of class, you're pretty much guaranteed.</p>

<p>man i wish they recruited for wrestling. Ive been varsity wrestling for 3 years now and placed in the CIF tournament. They only schools that recruit for wrestling are like oregon and Iowa, and I'd never go there.</p>
<p>Ivies don't offer scholarships.</p>
<p>All Ivies recruit in all their sports. You will get favorable consideration in admission, and in financial aid. If you think you are good enough, and you have not been recruited yet (it's getting late) you should contact the coach directly. There is a link at every school's web site.</p>
