Recently I got a message from a Harvard coach saying he is interested in continuing the recruiting process. I have already committed to another school, but Harvard has always been my dream school. One question: can anyone who has undergone the recruiting process comment on this language--for example, if Harvard told me they were coming to my home tomorrow, that would be one thing...this language, however, is vague...

You are wise to note the vague language- the coach does not want to commit to anything yet. But if it is truly your dream school, this is the time to listen to his interest.

You said you committed to another school- was that a verbal (non-binding) commitment, or a Letter of Intent signed?

Also take a look at Harvard’s mid-range stats for SAT/GPA to get a realisitic view if admissions would approve your app.

There is great information on Ivy recruiting on the Specialty Admissions site here on CC, click on Athletic Admissions.

Hey - welcome. It can be hard to gauge the level of interest from a coach. I’m sure you know this, but I wouldn’t kick the school to whom you’ve already committed to the curb unless H admissions can give you the holy grail, Likely Letter.

To the first poster: it was just a verbal commit…I haven’t received a likely letter but my SATs and GPA are within Harvard’s range.

And to the previous poster: You’re right–it has been difficult to tell a coach’s level of interest. I guess I’ll try to contact him and see what happens…This process is turning out to be much more involving than I had envisioned.
