Guys, I've heard that recruiting (i-banking/consultancy) at Wharton is better than recruiting at CAS for Economics, is this still true being that the gap between CAS and Wharton is 'negligible' now from what I've been told?

Any current UPenn students have any opinions? It would be much appreciated as I'm debating applying CAS Econs or Wharton. (Yes I think VERY long term, but I'm sure its common on CC. :)

So there is still a difference then? Thanks. Any first hand opinions from CAS students? Also, whats the acceptance rate of CAS vs Wharton? I know the stats are not posted but does anyone have estimations?

Recruiting at Wharton is done through OCR – On Campus Recruiting. Typically companies seeking interns look in the spring for juniors, and companies seeking full-time employees look in the fall for seniors. Now, there are usually consulting, I-Banking and finance firms, though you will get firms from all sorts of sectors. Wharton students have a clear advantage for i-banking, finance, accounting, etc, but they are on essentially level ground with CAS students for consulting. Also, even if a company says they are seeking Wharton juniors, I know of College sophomores who have gotten jobs!

Basically, Wharton is why companies come, but all of Penn gets the advantages (and terrible stresses) of OCR.

I don’t think that’s a fair assessment. Goldman, McKinsey, et al would still come to Penn if Wharton didn’t exist. The only ones that might now come are those weird hedge funds that will say ‘we only recruit harvard and wharton students’…don’t think I’d be missing them anyway ;)
