whats the deal with athletic recruitments? I've heard a LOT about this and, as a non-recruitee, I'm kinda nervous. Shouldn't the Academy be more concerned with accepting the candidates with the greatest leadership potential? I know that every once in a while a star player can bring in huge advertisement for the school, but I feel like I'm the only candidate who isn't being recruited for a sport. whats the deal?

The VAST majority of candidates for all of the service academies are NOT recruited athletes. Anyhow, the only thing you have control over is the strength of your own file. Good Luck!!

they are-

and they find lots of leaders with a degree of "proven" leadership on the sports fields....

and elsewhere as well....

Successful high school scholar-athletes are always recruited to top colleges. Dedication necessary to excel- or least be superior in both simultaneously- is a daunting and demanding task. A candidate that is able to accomplish the latter is surely part of the talent pool the SA(s) want as appointees

Sports will play a large part in any Academy education and it is natural that many appointee's would be solid competitors.

Proving the Army can be right sometimes, General Macarthur said Upon the fields of friendly strife, are sewn the seeds, that upon other fields, on other days, will bear the fruits of victory. I do believe the Navy did have to give him a ride a few times making those victories possible.
