Recruiting engineers for new element discovery

Hi everyone!

I'm entering UC Berkeley, which has a great chemistry department, and plan on being a chemical engineer and entering grad school. I REALLY REALLY WANT TO MAKE MYSELF STAND OUT. From what I know, people at Berkeley found two elements so far, both of which are named after the school: Berkelium and Californium.

Basically, I want to enter a good grad school, so for my extracurricular activity, I will devote most of my time to discovering a new element! Preferably an element with an atomic number of at least 120(don't want to be renown for something with a small mass). I was wondering if there were any engineers on this forum that would be interested in assisting me in my quest...if we succeed(and I have the ambition and aspirations to do so), then I will make sure we all share the same credit/fame/nobelprize. We all dream, and we can make our dreams come true if we work at them! I can't pay you guys money as this is an entirely voluntary project, but the long run payoff will be timeless glory if we succeed!

ALSO!! We can't meet each other in real life because I am paranoid of meeting ppl online(they might end up being online predators), but we can always form an AIM chatroom and start discussing our battle plan! SO WHO'S WITH ME!!

Oh yeah, and I'm only recruiting people with a significant number of posts. I noticed a correlation between post count and intelligence(higher post count usually means smarter) so I am interested in the #k posters.

I’m an English major, but i would like to do some aim chatrooms and discover this new element with you

We could definitely use you, Man. Maybe not in the actual discovery of the element since we’ll be dealing with state-of-the-art procedures like chromatography, but we could use several ideas for our element’s name. At the moment, I’m thinking Sagium, but that might be a bit selfish.

“we’ll be dealing with state-of-the-art procedures like chromatography”
Sagert, I love you! Can I help?

I vote bigtreesium for the element name.

I’m in. I saw a movie on how to do this one time. All we need is some piping, CGI and a captain america shield.

Is this a joke?

Yes. Yes it is.

I would love to have you on my team, rainbowrose! I’ll PM you my AIM later.

bigtreesium…I’ll add it to the list of possible names(currently only has Sagium)

I DON’T KNOW WAT YOU ARE TALKIN ABOUT CHUY BUT LET’S TRY IT! The method you are suggesting chuy is unknown to me, but like Thomas Pickering once said, “In archaeology you uncover the unknown. In diplomacy you cover the known.”

Joke? You’re a joke. This is a completely serious thread.

To try my method we’ll need a scale model of a theme park to get the structure down, then we’ll deal with the pipes.

After I’m done finding Unobtainium, kthnx.

you really should hook up with the guy in the other thread that wants to be ironman. i told him that he’ll need to discover/invent a new element in order to be ironman.

i claim element number 1000 as rocketdanium
i claim element number googleplex as googlium

Come on rocketDA, I expected more from you! It is spelled “googolplex”

so you go get the particle accelerator then we’ll talk. Haha this is idiotic. R u serious I still can’t figure out if you’re joking or not. Do you have millions of dollars lined up already or do I need to get them.

I’m not joking.

How about…I buy the mats(dropper pipettes, Erlenmeyer flask, raw elements) and you get the money to fund us? Sounds about fair.

And what do you intend to do with this new element? Power your iron man suite?

The elements are NP complete.

i reserve hadium and sedium for elements 256 and 512.

Iron man suit?? C’mon now, save that stuff for the movies. This is for real, so I can go to a top tier graduate school!
