Recruiting for a sport at USNA

My nephew is being actively recruited in his sport by the coaches at Stanford, Dartmouth and other schools. His 1st choice is USNA. How active is recruiting at USNA? What's the best way for him to get on the radar of the USNA coach? My nephew will be going to NASS. Perhaps he'll have an opportunity to meet the coach at that time. Thanks for any information you may have.

he should fill out the recruiting questionair for his sport on the web site.

my school has had coaches from the academy show up at games and such. but the best move is to seek them out. fill out the questionnaires and such for the naval academy, and email/introduce yourself to coaches.

Works well. S is a football player and got a lot of exposure due to the camps. He was a direct admit ( not a NAPSter) and had all the other statistics (grades, ECA’s, ACT/SAT Comm service) However the camps probably put him over the top.

irish10- what sport???

Football, but he’s a multi-sport type of guy. One of the few 3 sport athletes these days.

Actually, lots of high-school three-sporters at the Academy–and more than a few keep that up at Navy (not three, but two). For instance, my kid was recruited for one team (generated attention via email), played that sport Plebe (freshman) year, and now starts for a different sport.

Your nephew will have the opportunity to meet coaches at NASS, but have him email them, too.

Good luck to him!

might be true of applicants to other schools, but at USNA it is very typical.

Football-
the recruitment is very active. The best way to get on the radar is to contact the coach. If you call, back it up with a cover letter and athletic CV, and any tapes that you may have. Be pro-active (meaning, don’t wait for the coach to find you or come to you- bring the mountain to them).

NASS is certainly an option, and glad to hear your nephew is going. IN addition, I would suggest having your nephew attend a summer football camp at USNA as well if funding allows.

any body excited about club sports? I’m wondering if Navy has a MMA team or jiu-jitsu team.

martial arts- yes. not so sure about the jitsu-
but with enough interest, you can always get one going!

ECAs at USNA can be found here: [Extracurricular Activities](http://www.usna.edu/extraact.htm)

Sports (Varsity & Club) can be found here: [USNA - Athletics Information](http://www.usna.edu/athletics.htm)

And, Navy2010 is exactly right. You can start one, with enough interest being generated first…
