Hey friends, it's been awhile since I've been on, but we have another student aiming at graduation.

Do any of you have experience with a child who wants to play sports in college? Our next son is an athlete who plays for a homeschool league. I am not sure how to get his name out there. Most of the sites I've looked at are thousands of dollars and we do not have much money at all (we're in full time ministry). Any thoughts or ideas?

Have him make a profile page on berecruited.com or captainu.com or ncsa.com. My D has all three, but berecruited has been the most helpful. Paid very minimum $ and have deluxe package where we can send letters to coaches and see who looks at her stats and bookmark her and then we follow up with them when they contact her. NCSA is expensive, but you can get a free profile also and see the colleges that have slots to fill. CaptainU costs more on a monthly basis if you want the deluxe package, but we just kept the free profile. Have him to cast a wide net. You or he will have to do the legwork as far as contacting coaches, looking at colleges that he’s interested in team stats and see where he falls and go from there, but persistence pays off. Learn the NCAA rules and tell him to keep his grades up. Hope that helps.

Contact coaches at different schools. When you contact them set up a time to talk either in person and there your son can ask what it would take to be recruited and tell the coach more about him as athlete. Also look into recruiting camps for your son.

How old is your child? For a lot of sports a players club association is very important for recruiting as opposed to their high school team affiliation … it seems this path might be as viable for your child as any other kid.
