recruiting: yale track and field

hello, I'm a male sophomore, running track and cross country, and i am hoping to be recruited to run at either Dartmouth, Brown, or Yale. here's my general profile:
-4.0GPA going into junior year (took all honors courses fresh/soph years)
-in my highschool's highest band
-will be taking pre-calc and 3APs junior year(bio,eng,u.s.hist) and multiple APs senior year
My strongest track events are the 1600m-4:38, and 800m-2:03. im hoping to greatly improve these times next year! any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
(as for cross country, i was injured sophomore year, so i will see how i do junior year) my last 5k was 17:40.

and my grandfather went to dartmouth. that may help with admissions to dartmouth?

4:38 for the mile is about 20 seconds too high if you want to be seriously recruited by either school. I don’t know much about good times for the 800m though, sorry.

i’m aware that 4:38 is not a desirable time for the coaches, and it was my sophomore year time. so i have next year to improve! i wasnt training at an extremely high level this year anyway. im planning on stepping up my training next year. any tips or information in general would be greatly appreciated!

Based on the Yale T&F bios linked below, I would estimate that < 1:57 for 800 and < 4:25 for the mile might spark Yale’s interest, especially if your history is one of steady improvement. Most male distance runners can expect significant improvement between sophomore and senior years, so keep working. And don’t ignore your speed work as it becomes increasingly important in middle distances as competition levels increase. At some point you’ll probably have to decide if you’re fast enough to compete strongly in the 800 or if you need to go up in distance.

You’d have your senior CC season, too, to make an impression.

Of course grades matter most, so keep at it.

Freshman bios include HS bests.

thank you descartesz! very helpful. im hoping what you say about improvement in male runners happens with me, but i guess the improvement is due to muscle growth? i heard recruitment can help with admissions, but any knowledge you have on this would be great. and any additional information or advice in general is greatly appreciated.
