how much does being a recruit help your chances of getting in? i’m a very average applicant. SAts in 1300s and medicore GPA. do u think athletics really help u get in?

What is your sport and how good are you?

fencing, im pretty good, i fence at a national level. im ranked 40th in the country for girls under 19

My impression is that if the coach really wants you and invites you for an official visit, it is a big help with admissions, ESPECIALLY if you are willing to apply ED.

hows your gpa
id say if you have a 3.4+ UW you would have a good chance just as a rough estimate. getting recruited helps a lot in separating you from the rest of the field. I know several kids who were recruited to ivy's (yale, harvard, dartmouth) with about a B+ average and decent SAT scores and got in. apply early.

3.7 GPA. im visiting the coach but i think its an "unofficial visit"

i cant really speak for fencing as i dont know much about it and how much it will be able to affect your application as i know all sports are treated differently depending on the school. I think it will help you a lot.

it definetly helps if you're good enough and the coach puts you on the athlete list that they eventually give to the adcoms. first instance, my friend places tennis, scored a 1290 on his SATs/ranked about 40 out of 100, applied early to columbia (college) and got in. then again that is for tennis i dont kno if the school favors particular sports. usually if you score a 1250+ and a 3.5 gpa you should be ok academically.
