Hi guys, I have a generic question. How many recommendation letters is "too much?"

When they start sounding the same.

Two from teachers, one from your counselor, and up to three optional personal or professional recommendations. Don’t get three optional ones unless they all have really good and unique things to say about you. More letters of rec. won’t look any better if they all say the same thing or if some are generic and bland.

To add the previous post, never get an optional rec unless it really clarifies some different facet of your personality that no other rec does, and would something you consider to be a very strong recommendation. If you submit any optional recs that are simply “very good blah blah” or stuff like that, they would really not be advisable…

Do you guys get to read your recs? At my school, we have to waive our rights, so I don’t really know if an additional rec would be superfluous or helpful

Probably the former.

^Yes, a lot ppl feel the need to submit an additional rec but it is rarely justified. unless you are so eclectic that three ppl (two teachers and counselor) are not enough to adequately capture your personality, i would say getting more is superfluous…
