Recs for a light laptop?

The only things I really use my laptop for are writing papers, music, and going online. I'm a bio/pre-med major/linguistics minor so I don't need anything specific in terms of programming.

The main things I'm looking for are:

Good battery life (around 4-5 hrs would be nice)

Light weight (around 4-5.5 pounds),

Around 14", thin (< one inch), but still has a

dvd/cd drive.

Preferably abacklit keyboard.

Doesn't go over $1000. Preferably around 700.

Not a Mac, please.
