I’m really hoping you guys could give me so insight about the letters of rec for transfer admissions. I mean I’m a good student and I do a lot outside of school as well but I never really understand how the professor-student dynamic was supposed to work. How are the professors supposed to know me well enough to write me a great rec? I’ll stay after lectures and ask insightful questions but they’re always really to-the-point and seem like they have someplace they have to be (which I get it, they probably do). I feel like in first year there not only isn’t a whole lot you can do to stand out to your profs, but the collegiate system is designed so that you have to work your way up from basically complete disrepute. I don’t know maybe I’m looking at this all wrong? What does the admissions committee actually look for from prof recs? Help!!
Bump
Are you sure they want recs? Recs aren’t even listed on the Common Data Set for transfers.
If you need recs, perhaps you can ask some HS teachers.
@“Erin’s Dad” @happy1 Ah my bad I should have stated that I’m applying to Columbia. I didn’t realize that some schools didn’t need recs. A school of that caliber obviously expects people to say stellar things about their applicants, so how would I go about getting in better standing with my profs?
Ahh, I see your requirement
Professors must be familiar with rec requirements. If you stayed after to ask questions you already stand out. Just ask
