I have to get two recommendations for some of the schools I'm applying to. The thing is, the two teachers I most want to ask are teaching very similar classes: ENGL 2000 (Literary Analysis) and ENGL 2010 (Introduction to Literary Theory). Do you think it's problematic that I wouldn't be demonstrating much range? (I'm applying to Penn, Barnard, NYU Gallatin, Georgetown A&S, and UChicago.)

My other option is to ask another English teacher for an Intro to Fiction class (I'm a very good writer, and this sounds obnoxious, but probably the best in the class. I'm just not sure he'd really want to do it as much; I don't know him well at all.)

Then it should be fine. All that matters is the depth of the rec. Who cares if your science teacher can only write does well on tests if you destroy two english courses while forging a great relationship.

just be sure to check the requirements - I found out AFTER asking my teachers that Wesleyan, for instance, requires one from an English/Humanities teacher and one from a Math/Science teacher. Make sure the schools on your list don't have designations like that.
