Recs through Common Application?

Hi everyone. I recently discovered that I can invite my teachers to write their recommendations online (in Commonapp page). I was wondering if anyone knew how the system works? I mean...I just enter their e-mail address and they can write me a recommendation? And can the counselor send all the necessary forms online too (like school transcripts)?
Thank you!!

Yeah!!!! :)

Just be careful, they must be sent all online or all by mail. You can't send one rec online and the others by mail.

Ya! Take note of that! And I checked with my counsellor, who showed me the online submission system. It was quite clear and easy-to-use! And it will save you time, money and a lot of worries associated with mail.

Thank you so much!

My teachers will probably be very happy to do everything online and not worry about copies etc :)

How exactly does this work? Does the Common App keep a record of the recommendation so that if you add schools later on you can just click and send the rec on file? Or do you need to get the teacher to upload again?

another question here: if i am going to be doing multiple versions of the online common app will the rec have to be uploaded for each version?

Another question: Can you invite more than 2 teachers to write your rec? If so, will the app only accept the first two submitted recs and reject the others?

bump. (10char)

double bump.

Excuse me if this question has been asked, but I have not seen it asked as explicitly: if I have multiple teachers write rec letters online, can I send different letters to different places?

electronblue: No it doesn't. But your teacher should keep a record of your recs.

davezhan: No you can't.

Fastfood15: Yes. You can have only teachers invited per college, and those two can be different for different colleges.

Is it possible to review the recs? My only concern is that my band director isn't particularly strong in the writing department.

Ok. I became a lot smarter from those answers but some things are still confusing.

If I have only two teachers who write me the recs then I don't have to "invite" them to the common app multiple times? Or do I? I mean can I just do it like this that I invite them once and then use their recs with all the schools. So the teachers will just fill in one form once?

And just to be sure - all my school transcripts can be sent via the internet, right?

Thank you!!

You gotta invite them for all the schools, or that's what I know. But you can surely invite different teachers for different schools, if it suits your purpose!

Ya, they can be sent online!

Is it easier to have the apps sent in by mail?

Online is much easier and faster, tho what your teachers may think may vary.

OK, to answer some questions if they haven't been answered already. You can choose which teacher does the rec for which achool however you can't choose counsellors. If you add a school or take one off before or after they have completed the application that's fine. ie: If they complete the application and you send if your commapp and then you decide two does before some university's deadline that you want to apply there too that's fine. Just send your application and everything will go through:)
I gave my teachers a break down of everything they will have to do and preprinted the forms so they could see what was on them before they sat down to fill them in. remind your teachers that you are applying online only as they are given the option to print the forms when they first sign in. also get your teachers to preview all uploaded forms as some of my teachers had problems witht hem as they were blank the first few times:) Good Luck!

What about the counselor, can he/she send all the necessary forms online too (like school transcripts)?

No one anser this

Ya. Just upload the the transcript as a doc, pdf file.
